Position Summary

The Rental Supervisor (Year Round role) is responsible for helping lead our team in guest service, teamwork, and safety for daily operations - including assigning stations, quality of work, checking daily labor, schedules, etc. The Supervisor also works with other departments to ensure guests are supported with ticket and lesson needs. The Rental Supervisor is required to have a general knowledge of safety procedures and PPE use ensuring all techs work safely when working around any machines, power tools, chemicals, and hand tools. You must possess exemplary guest service skills and be able to provide instruction on proper equipment use for ski, snowboard, and bike rentals. The Supervisor is responsible for the daily cash control including opening and closing procedures for POS's and securing cash deposits. They are also responsible for opening and closing the building. Additionally, they assist the manager in staff evaluations, onboarding and separation procedures, and payroll. The year-round Supervisor shares responsibility with the manager in the maintenance of all equipment including binding testing compliance. The supervisor will provide valuable input in staff meetings and administer safety huddles. They will make sure each staff member is in full uniform with a name tag while working.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

  • Must possess strong guest service and communication skills.
  • Has basic knowledge of ski equipment, snowboard equipment, and mountain bike gear.
  • The supervisor is responsible for daily assignments, safety and guest service huddles, snow removal, training, and pertinent mountain operations information.
  • Responsible for schedule creation and checking labor numbers
  • Enter time/labor corrections into timekeeping software as needed
  • Assist manager in the completion of mid-season and end-of-season evaluations
  • Oversee implementation of special programs to include SORI4, OAS, multi-week programs, and school programs
  • Assist in leading valet and overnight storage guest programs.
  • Training staff with POS and daily operating procedures.
  • Provide ongoing training for staff development.
  • Lead with guest service skills for our team day in and day out.
  • Provide directions and feedback to staff as needed.
  • The supervisor should be in contact with other departments to ensure accurate information flow.
  • Be involved in hiring and terminating decisions
  • Proper management of all Release and Indemnity Agreements including all rental gear being scanned out to guests correctly.
  • Lead weekly safety huddles, maintain Safety binder, and turn in paperwork to be filed
  • Use resort reporting for monitoring sales product mix, discounts, and refunds.
  • Lead teams daily to move rental equipment from to and from West Village and Sunrise as needed. You will need to be on our work vehicle driver list for this.
  • Support rental teams daily in moving ski racks out and in at the start and end of each business day.
  • Ensure employees get a 30-minute lunch when working over 6 hours and receive all necessary 10-minute breaks.
  • Assist the tune shop staff and train as needed.
  • Be available to work from 7:30 to 5:15 daily.
  • Be available to work weekends and weekdays as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Secondary Function

Cover the manager's duties when they are not present. Assist in snow removal projects around the resort.

Job Scope

The primary focus of the supervisor is to run daily operations and assist managers in department growth and development.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Number of employees supervised: 13-50
  • Positions supervised: Rental & Repair Staff
  • Scheduling and assigning work: Staff on a seasonal and daily basis
  • Training: Assist in the implementation of training both at the beginning of the season and continuing.
  • Disciplinary Actions: Initial contact with staff as necessary and communication with the manager.
  • Performance Reviews: Assist manager in completion of mid-season and end-of-season for all rental staff.
  • Hiring/Termination: Assist manager as necessary.

Interpersonal Contacts

Supervisors communicate with guests, staff, staff/supervisors/managers from other departments, and their managers on a daily basis. Other departments such as Gravity School, Receiving, Marketing, Group Sales, Tickets, Risk Management, Building Maintenance, Mt. Ambassadors, Retail, and Demos need to be communicated with as the situation dictates.

Specific Job Skills

  • License/Certifications: Binding Certifications.
  • Technical: Computer skills and knowledge of InTouch resort software are a plus.
  • Physical Capabilities: Able to Ski/Ride at an intermediate level.
  • Computer Use: High level of interpersonal relationship skills, administrative skills, great ability to multitask, extremely detail-oriented, possess the ability to motivate crew, plan and execute team building events, and keep employee morale high throughout the season.

Education/Related Experience

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Minimum time in related position: 2 years in a leadership role(s)
