ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a
Civil / Structural Engineer to join our team supporting the DOE's
Y-12 National Security Complex ! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Responsibilities - Provide the Mission Engineering department with structural design engineering support for facility and production area activities in Cat 2, 3/non-nuclear and balance of plant facilities, and backbone infrastructure utilities.
- Provide design output documentation to support minor facility modifications.
- Design output drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.
- Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.
Requirements - Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-Accredited University and 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
- Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
- Must have familiarity with and experience in developing designs in accordance with:
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1),
- a variety of Continued Service Agreement (CSA) related issues, and
- non-reactor nuclear facilities, natural phenomena events, structural rehabilitation, and building evaluations.
- Must be familiar with consensus design codes.
- Must have an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
- Must be willing to work in a production environment.
Desired Skills - Demonstrated experience in a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulated environment is desirable.
- An active DOE "Q" clearance is preferred, however, all applicants regardless of security clearance status will be considered.
About the Site The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation's only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
